Sims Juice 2017 Review

The Sims Juice is an all mountain freestyle board, with a micro camber profile and retro graphics.

Features of the Sims Juice:

  • True Twin All Mountain Freestyle
Same size nose and tail mean that the Juice will ride the same in both regular and switch directions.
  • Micro Camber Profile
    sims juice micro camber profile
There is a small amount of camber through most of the board, with a small amount of early rise in the nose and tail.
  • Micro Early Rise in the Nose and Tail
  • Vario Power Grip Sidecut
The sidecut is made up of multiple radiuses, which are made to give extra grip (contact points). The sidecut is flat in the center rocker section of the board, so that the board still easily rides straight and doesn’t want to catch. Extending outside of the flat section are two shallow radius sections, then closest to the tip and tail are some deeper radius sections. The deep sections give a quick and smooth turn initiation and exit.
  • Mid Flex
    Medium flex rating.
  • Matte Topsheet
  • STS Pre-Tensioned Fiberglass
This is a pre-hardened and pre-tensioned laminate, that has elastomer stringers that run the length of the board. It means that there is a stronger bond between each layer of the glass laminates.
  • +/- 45 Fiberglass Laminate
  • Bi-Lite Fiberglass
  • Quad Carbon X
  • SIMS Hybrid Poplar/Aspen Core
  • RDS 2 Dampening System
There are 3 narrower damping layers, that are made to get a balance between stability and vibration absorbtion.
  • Elastomer Underfoot Stabilizer
There are rubber stabililzers under the bindings, which are made to absorb vibrations, and keep everything stable and smooth at high speed.
  • Sintered P-Tex Sidewalls
Different to most sidewalls, which are made from ABS, P-Tex sidewalls keep their integrity at any temperature, so they are much more resistant to cracking.
  • Durasurf Sintered 4501 Base
It is a high density sintered base material, which is fast and durable.
  • Low Profile Tip/Tail
  • P-Tex Tip/Tail Protection
  • 3 Year Warranty

Sizes Available:

Just like Never Summer boards, if there is an “X” in the model name, it means it is a wide version.

How the Sims Juice rides

Board: Sims Juice 2017 156cm

Bindings: Salomon District

Boots: ThirtyTwo Tm Two

Stance: 21.5″ centered, +12° and -9°

Snow: Hardpacked groomers, firm snow in the trees.

Flex & Camber Profile

The Juice has a medium flex rating, which wasn’t super stiff, but still needed a bit of effort to press.

The micro camber is a toned down version of regular camber. It has a similar feel to a regular camber board, without so much of the catchyness. Just after the micro camber section, there is a small early rise on the nose and tail of the board.

It is a nice mix of the camber feel, but still has a little bit of looseness or forgivness, so you don’t have to worry about it catching if you don’t get a spin all the way around.

Shape

It’s a twin board, so riding it switch felt just the same as riding it regular.

Edge Hold

The edge hold on the Juice feels very similar to riding a Never Summer board. On groomers it has that familiar Never Summer feel, which grips very well through the whole turn. Even on icy patches, it gripped quite well.

Speed

Like any camber board, it handles speed quite well compared to most hybrid or reverse camber board.. Even without being super stiff, keeping your weight centered on the board kept it feeling very solid at high speed. It has a pretty damp feel, it wasn’t chattery at all.

Pop

The Juice has a decent amount of pop, the medium flex and micro camber give it a good push back on ollies. If you really load up the tail, you can pop quite high.

It feels solid popping off and landing jumps.

Overall

Overall the Sims Juice is a good board for someone wanting a freestyle or park board with new tech in it, but still with a little bit of an old school feel.

For people that learnt to ride on camber boards, the micro camber is going to be a nice and familiar feel, while still being a bit more playful.

If you have ridden a Never Summer, the Sims Juice has a very similar feel (except for not being hybrid camber). The edge hold, and smooth turns of a Never Summer work well on a camber board.

It is going to be a good board for riding the park, it has a good amount of pop, enough flex that you can press it, while it will still handle big jumps without a problem.

As a small plus, the old graphics look good in real life.
