Korua Shapes Transition Finder Plus

Korua Shapes Transition Finder Plus Review

The Korua Shapes Transition Finder Plus (used to be called Tranny Finder Plus) is an upgraded version of the regular Transition Finder. Generally there aren’t any/many changes each season for Korua Shapes boards, but the original (white) Tranny Finder had more taper than the updated Transition finder. The Transition Finder Plus that I rode had the same original (larger taper) shape, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up changing the shape to the new updated version.

In general, the standard Korua Shapes boards have the white topsheet, with a solid red base. The construction of those is mainly the same, but they vary the shape. The upgraded Plus line take the regular boards, and upgrade the core, base and topsheet, which also gives them a stiffer flex.

How it Rides

Board size: 157cm

Boots: Vans Infuse 9.5

Bindings: Burton Cartel (the older version, which is equivalent to the newer Cartel X)

I am 6 foot tall and weigh 155lbs – or 183cm tall and 70kg.

Camber Profile

The Plus has the same profile as the regular board, which is also the same as the majority of Korua Shapes boards. I am quite used to this profile, and no matter the brand of board – rocker in the nose and camber under the feet is a good combination that I like.

Flex and Pop

There isn’t anywhere near the jump up in stiffness that I expected going from the regular to the Plus. Although that thought wasn’t based on anything, I did expect it to be very stiff seeing that I found the regular board to have a decently stiff flex.

It is a slight jump up, though it isn’t an intimidating or overwhelming stiffness. At my weight I could still flex and push it around enough, so it never felt like the board was controlling me.

Edge Hold

Edge hold on all Korua Shapes boards that I have ridden has been great, and this wasn’t an exception. I did notice one improvement, and that was that this board seemed to have a very damp feel, so less chatter at high speed. The board seemed to just absorb bumps, so it felt like the edge really wanted to stick into the snow and keep the grip consistent.

Turns

Turns felt just like they did on my regular Transition Finder, with the small difference of the tiny change in dampness. The profile of the board does make the entry to turns smooth and easy, but it feels very strong and grippy through the middle and end of the turn.

The further you push the board over, you can really notice that you can get a tighter (but still neat) radius turn in.

Float

The regular version of the board is my go-to for powder days, the shape just matches what I like in deep snow. The nose is wide and long enough to stay afloat without having to work or lean back too much, and the stiffer tail has enough strength that I can have my weight in the wrong position and the board will help me keep it all under control.

Speed

This is a quick board, I had freshly waxed it like all the boards that I ride, but it was fast in all conditions that I rode in.

Overall

Overall the Transition Finder Plus is not a scary upgrade to a capable board, but the extra features are nice. It is lighter, quicker and just a small bit stiffer.

Those upgrades do cost a bit more, so whether you can justify weight and speed upgrades for the price is something to work out.

Although you probably won’t hit the limits of what this board is capable of easily, it doesn’t force you to have perfect technique if you do want to ride a bit more casually.

It doesn’t come in a specific wide model, but it already has a very wide waist width that any other brand would call a “wide”.
