DC Mega 2015 Review

The DC Mega is a pretty stiff board, it is made to be really aggressive, poppy and stable. It has the Lock & Load Camber, which means that the majority of the board is camber, with a flat section near the contact points.

The sidecut shape on the Mega extends much closer to the tip and the tail of the board, and while it is hard to notice just by looking at it, it has a few advantages. The biggest is that you can ride a smaller sized board than normal, as a smaller Mega still has the sidecut, or effective edge of a bigger board. This means that the board is lighter, but when carving you still have a large amount of your edge digging in to the snow.

How it rides

The DC Mega is an aggressive board, the Lock & Load camber is very stable. Riding at high speeds, on icy cat tracks and through chopped up snow is really easy, the board just powers through everything.

Flex

The board has a pretty stiff flex, that DC rate as a 7.5 out of 10. The stiff flex with the camber means that landing bigger jumps and bigger drops is no problem, the board can handle a lot. Ollies need a bit of effort, but the pop that you get once the board pushes back is pretty good.

Buttering and pressing needs a lot of effort, it is far from a park noodle.

Being a high end freestyle board, it does its best work in the park. It has a twin shape, so riding and landing switch is exactly the same as riding regular.

The flex and camber means that it has really good pop off jumps, and landing spins is easy as the board doesn’t want to wash out and revert.

The base is sintered, so that means it holds wax well and is hard and fast.

Who is this board good for?

I would recommend this board for experienced riders who want a fast stable board that can handle high speeds and big jumps.

In the DC range the board below the Mega is the PLY, which has many of the same features, but with a softer flex. It is going to be easier to press and play around on than the Mega.

New this year is the DC Media Blitz, which is Torstein Horgmo’s pro model board. It is like the Mega, but super stiff. It is a 9.5/10 flex, so it is like an extreme version of the Mega.
