Pow Stealth Gore-Tex Mitt Review
The Pow Stealth Mitts (and the glove version) are high end, warm leather Gore-Tex mitts that have been able to keep my hands warm no matter the weather. I have had mind for long enough now to be able to give a rounded review, and have been worn in conditions from warm Australian slush, to cold Japanese and Canadian powder.
Durability
I have treated the mitts once with Nikwax leather conditioner, which seems to have done a good job so far, though they it probably wouldn’t hurt to do it again. The leather is soft, but the palms are still holding up well considering I use my right hand to clear the bindings of snow and ice at the top of every run. Comparing it to other gloves I have owned, I would have assumed that with this much use there would be some visible wear, but nothing has happened yet.
Comfort
Nothing to complain about here, they are soft, warm and comfortable.
Warmth
Nice and warm without being crazy, they have been fine for any conditions that I have found myself in so far. If the weather gets warmer, it doesn’t take too long before they will get too warm – they definitely aren’t a spring mitt.
Sizing
The sizing seems pretty normal to me, if you went to buy some I would just get your normal size, no need to size differently. I have the larges, and they are nice and comfortable, but if the weather is crazy cold, there is still enough room inside the mitts to fit liners, but it’s pretty rare that it would be cold enough to need that.
Overall
If you have the money to spend on some higher end mitts, they will serve you well. A good amount of insulation, soft leather and a Gore-Tex inner is pretty much all you need. If you are going to be using them mainly in winter, they will have plenty of warmth, and will be especially good if you get cold hands. I have used them in very rainy conditions, and have never gotten wet hands.
Features of the Pow Stealth Gore-Tex Mitt
- Grade A Leather
Made from Goatskins, it has a smoother feel comparing it to the rougher leather from cows.
- Gore-Tex Insert
The Gore-Tex insert are waterproof, windproof and very breathable, which is the key feature. If they didn’t breath, when your hands get sweaty there isn’t anywhere for the moisture to go, which can then make you feel cold. - Microfleece lining
Just some soft and comfy fleece lining. - PrimaLoft Gold Insulation
There is high loft (warmer) insulation on the back of the mitts, and lower loft insulation on the palm, so you still stay warm, but doesn’t make it hard to grip things like it would with bulky padding. - Velcro closure
Just the adjustable velcro closure on the mitts, that is the type that is made not to snag on your jacket or thermals, and only stick to what it is designed to. - Under Cuff
They are an under cuff design, so the sleeve of your jacket can slide easily over the top of the mitts.
- Wrist leash
An extra leash that will let the mitts hand from your hands if you need to take them off, you won’t have to worry about losing them if you have to check your phone.
