Halldor and Eiki Helgason’s brand of boards – based on the tech of Bataleon designs, with a few differences this season.
Lobster Camber Profiles
The same as Bataleon, Lobster have the same Triple Base or 3BT profiles. 3BT boards have a traditional camber profile, but the corners (at the contact points) are lifted up, giving them a much looser and more forgiving feel when you are riding them with a flat base.
Once you start turning, the whole edge is touching and you get the feel and edge hold of a regular camber board again.
There are a few versions of the 3BT base shapes, and the main differences are the width of the center base, and the angle of the side base.
Jib 3BT has the widest center base, with just a little uplift on the contacts, while the Pow version has a thin center base, with lots of uplift which almost creates a boat shape for riding in deep snow. Most of the other versions fit somewhere in the middle between the widest Jib profile and the thinner Pow profile.
On top of that, the last couple of years have had a feature called “Sidekick”, which is even more emphasised base lift past the contact points towards the nose and tail of the board, to help make starting turns smoother, and give some extra float in powder.
There are a couple of new versions this year, which step away a little from the Bataleon style, which don’t have 3BT at all, just the sidekick by itself.
Twin 3BT
A pretty mellow base uplift, that has the most angle at the widest section of the board.
Jib 3BT
Still with a wide centerbase, the uplift angle is quite low.
Freestyle 3BT
Divided into thirds, the centerbase is the same width (proportionally) as the side base, and it has a medium uplift.
Pow 3BT
A narrow centrebase, and wide side base that has the biggest amount of uplift.
