It might seem like a silly question to ask, but it isn’t.
Do snowboard boots fit true to size?
In general, there is a pretty good chance that your snowboard boots will end up the same size as your regular or street shoes.
Of course, there is no substitute for having your feet measured and fit properly at a snowboard store, but if you can’t get to one, you might just have to guess.
It’s very important to get snowboard boots that are the right size, because if you end up with boots that are too big or small, it is going to make riding much harder.
Too small and you are going to hurt your toes, and too big you are going to move around in the boots and have a sloppy unresponsive feel.
When you go and get boots fitted by a professional, you might not immediately like the feel of them. When they are new, snowboard boots are supposed to be very tight. If you have ever bought skates or rock climbing shoes, then you would know the feel.
You have to remember that snowboarding boots pack out, which means that the inside liner expands to fit your feet. The more you wear them, the faster they will adjust to fit your feet nicely. You can speed this process up by getting them heat molded.
When you get boots heat molded, the inners are heated up, you put the boots on and tighten them up and stand in them until they cool down, adjusted to the shape of your feet. If you have the option to get your boots molded, I highly recommend it.
Although I don’t really recommend buying boots online without wearing them first, you might just have to take an educated guess for the size. If you can measure your foot in cm, then you can choose the boot based on the mondo size, rather than the US size.
For me, I wear a 10.5 (US) size shoe in Nike and Vans, which works out well for me in 10.5 (US) or 28.5cm (mondo) ThirtyTwo boots. If I am wearing Burtons I can get away with a 10 (US) or a 28.
If you do end up buying boots, if you get them from evo.com or backcountry.com, they both have good return policies if they don’t fit right.
