Features of the Never Summer Twenty Five

  • Hextech Topsheet
This is a topsheet material, that is made to give more grip (like a stomp pad), and is strong and built not to scratch or chip.
  • Carbon Max Laminate Technology
  • Ripsaw Rocker Camber Profile
The Ripsaw profile has the same feel as the original Rocker Camber design, but has more aggresssive camber sections, so you get better edge hold and more pop.

  • Extended Transition Area
A larger transition area (flat section) that helps for easy turn initiation (starting a turn) and helps the float in powder.
  • Vario Power Grip Sidecut
There are a few different radiuses, which are combined to give the board extra contact points, so you get better edge hold. Out towards the nose and tail, there are deep radius sections, which change to shallow radius sections, then to a straight section in the middle of the board.

  • Low Profile Tip/Tail
Low profile (thinner) tip and tail keep the highest amount of board touching the snow – which helps for float, pop for ollies and nollies and gives you more stability when your landings aren’t perfect, while keeping the weight down.
  • STS Pre-Tensioned Fiberglass
This is a pre-hardened and pre-tensioned laminate that has elastomer stringers between the 0 and 90 degree glass fibers.
  • Bi-Lite Fiberglass
This has some of the strength features of the STS fiberglass, but is much lighter.
  • NS SuperLight Wood Core
The core is made from sustainable Hybrid Poplar wood, that is combined with Birch hardwood.
  • RDS 1+ Damping System
The highest amount of damping on a Never Summer board, it uses twice the amount of damping material than their other options, which means it absorbs the most vibrations, and stabilizes the nose in rough conditions.
  • Elastomeric Underfoot Stabilizers
Under the bindings are areas that are made to absorb vibration, keep the board stable at speed and help reduce foot fatigue (by getting rid of vibrations).
  • Sintered P-Tex Sidewall
P-Tex sidewalls have the advantage of being able to handle colder temperatures compared to ABS sidewalls, that can crack.
  • Durasurf XT Sintered 5501 Base
The base material used on the higher end Never Summer boards, which is fast and durable, and has added graphite.
  • P-Tex Tip and Tail Protection
P-Tex surround the ends of the wood core to protect it against impacts, and help to reduce vibrations.

How the Never Summer Twenty Five rides

never summer twenty fiveI rode the a 158cm Twenty Five, with ThirtyTwo Tm-Two boots, and Flux XF Bindings.

I had a 22.5″ stance with the bindings set at +12 and -9.

The snow was a combination between very hardpacked snow, soft groomers and packed snow in the trees.

Flex & Camber Profile

The Twenty Five has the RipSaw Rocker Camber profile, which has a big rocker section between your feet and under your bindings. Extending out from just after the bindings is a small camber section.

If you have ridden Never Summer boards before, then you would be familiar with the feel that they have. They grip very well, even on hardpacked snow you feel comfortable through the whole turn.

It has a medium stiff flex rating, which means riding has a very solid feel, even at high speeds.

Shape

The Twenty Five has a directional shape, so the nose is slightly longer than the tail.

The sidecut is made up of a few different radius circles, rather than just one. What is means when riding, is that you get a smooth entry to the turn and exit to the turn, and when you are riding flat based there isn’t a catchy feel.

Speed

Like I expected from a high end (expensive) freeride board, it is pretty fast. It can handle high speeds without any problem, and feel solid even when riding through chopped up and hardpacked snow.

It has a sintered base, which keeps it fast and does a good job at soaking up wax.

Pop

The medium stiff flex rating gives it a good amount of pop, if you load up the tail, it will push back very nicely, so big ollies don’t need a huge amount of effort.

Overall

Overall the Twenty Five is going to be a good board for someone who likes to ride fast, make solid carves and wants a solid board that is going to respond when you need it to. If you take advantage of getting fresh lines when it does snow, it would be a good choice.

If you like the sound of this board, but want to ride a bit of park, it would be worth it to have a look at the Never Summer Proto Type Two, which is similar in specs, but has a twin shape.
