Capita Super DOA

Yes Capita Super DOA 2023 Review

The Capita Super DOA is the upgrade from the very popular DOA/Defenders of Awesome, though a few of the features are the same, they are very different boards.

They both share the same camber profile and shape, but pretty much everything after that is different. The main takeaway that you can get from this review is that the Capita Super DOA rides and feels like an expensive board should.

How the Capita Super DOA 2023 Rides

Board size: 156cm

Boots: Vans Infuse

Bindings: Union Ultra

I am 6 foot tall and weigh 155lbs – or 183cm tall and 70kg. I was riding the Super DOA at Mt Buller, in Australian spring conditions. Plenty of slush, icy sections in the shade and everything in between.

Seeing that this is the upgrade to the regular DOA or Defenders of Awesome, a lot of this review will be comparing the differences in how the two ride.

Technically Capita rate the DOA as a 5.5/10 and the Super DOA as a 6/10, though I think that those numbers are way off, especially once the boards have been ridden for a while, and broken in.

Camber Profile

Both boards have the same Resort V1 profile, which is mainly camber under your feet, decent sized flat sections with just a little rocker at the contact points.

On the regular DOA it gives is a looseish and easy to ride feel, that still has the lively feel of the regular camber.

On the Super DOA is feels way more aggressive, if I rode it without knowing the profile I would have assumed that it was much closer to a full camber profile.

Flex and Pop

The flex of the Super DOA felt quite a lot stiffer than the 6/10 rating that the board is given, though I also thought that on my Mercury.

Edge Hold

The edge hold is much, much better than I would have expected for a board with this profile. There must be a lot of other things that are contributing to the edge hold, probably in the fancy core. It has the reliability and consistent feel that I would expect from a stiff and full camber board.

Turns

Turning the board feels fine, but I think what makes them seem really good is the fact I could count on the edges holding no matter how I was riding. Quick and tight turns, or fast and laid out turns were made easy because I could count on the board gripping no matter what.

Float

I wasn’t able to ride the board in any fresh snow, though I wouldn’t expect anything crazy from a true twin board in powder anyway.

Speed

This board is fast, the base is very very quick and you can hear the structure on every turn. There are a lot of very fast boards that I have ridden on, but this one would be right up there, if not the fastest.

What sort of rider is the Capita Super DOA good for?

If you are someone who is suited to riding the regular DOA, just because this upgraded version is around doesn’t mean that you should get it. It has a completely different feel when riding, and you are going to have to put in more work to get the most out of it.

The Super name is definitely justified on this board. It rides like an expensive board should. The performance you can get from such a light board is pretty crazy, it makes me wonder how much further things can be pushed.

If the price of the Super DOA isn’t an issue, just make sure that you are ready for a board that might take a bit of work to get the most from it.

Light, fast, reliable and expensive.

Features of the Capita Super DOA

Resort V1 Profile

capita resort v1 profile

Overall this is a mainly camber profile. The pressure is reduced a little at the contact points in the flat sections, then a tiny rocker section out towards the nose and the tail.

3D Profiling

You can see the 3d profiling on the topsheet,

True Twin

A symmetrical shape, no difference at all when you ride it switch.

Blended Radial Sidecut

A single radius arc through the middle, than blends at the contact points of the board.

Holysheet Triaxial Fiberglass

Three directions of fiberglass on the top and the bottom of the core.

3D Hover Core

Thermopolymer Core

It is made up of a combination of Poplar, Paulownia and Beech woods, with channels of recycled thermopolymer – whatever that is.

ABS1000 Sidewalls

A fast, dense sintered base.

A very thing but durable matte topsheet, that is 60% lighter than regular Capita topsheets.

A nice structure that is added to the board.
