Burton Sidekick Bindings 2016

The Burton Sidekick is similar to an upgraded Lexa, but made for the park and freestyle riding.

Similar to a couple of models in the mens range, the first feature that you notice about the Sidekicks is the Winged Hi-Back.

The main idea is that the high back wings wrap around your boot more than normal bindings, so you get better support and more leverage for presses and tweaking grabs.

Similar to the 2015 model, there is just one color for 2016 model.

Flex

They Burton Sidekick have a medium/stiff flex, which is rated as a 7/10, a little stiffer than last years which was a 6/10. Although they are made for riding in the park, with so many similar features of the Lexa, and the flex rating, they will do just as well for riding anywhere on the mountain.

Baseplate

They only come in the Re:Flex version, but that means they will fit on any board. They come with 3 sets of discs in the box, which will let them be mounted to Burton Channel boards, Burton 3D boards and a normal disc to fit on everything else.

The Re:Flex baseplate and discs are designed to help get the most flex out of the bindings, so that you can feel the “true” flex of the board, rather than the board having to flex around the bindings. The discs flex in the middle, and the baseplate is cored out, and is made to touch the smallest amount of the board as possible.

Hi-Backs

As well as having wings, the Hi-Backs are canted to naturally fit the shape of your legs and keep them comfortable.

To adjust the forward lean on the Hi-Backs, you just need to spin the little dial which push them forward for a more aggressive ride, or back them off to be more relaxed. They have the option to be set at 0 degrees, which is the most relaxed feel, and something that can be handy for park riders.

Straps

The ankle strap is large and padded, and now has a Flex Slider which is a little hinged area so that the strap can fold out of your way while you are strapping in.

The toe cap (Gettagrip Capstrap) is tough and stretchy, it won’t move once you have done it up.

Padding

There is plenty of padding on the Burton Sidekick, seeing that they are made for handling impacts, drops and general park riding.

Under your boots there is dual density EVA padding, which is made to settle into a position that is comfortable for you, rather than limiting you to a certain degree of canting.

There is a dampening pad under the baseplate, which helps to get rid of vibrations before they get to your feet. Under your heel there is B3 Gel to help smooth out big impacts.
